Opportunities for our Food Services Program

Volunteers at Hollywood Food Coalition stacking crates of food donations on pallets in partnership with Union Station Homeless Services.

There are about 832,000 households facing food insecurity in Los Angeles County, affecting low- income households disproportionately. It’s visible to everyone that the cost of food, along with othergoods and services, has increased significantly. Nutrition insecurity, which goes beyond food availability, has increased by 29% since 2023.

This means fewer people have consistent access to nutrient-dense foods that support health and wellbeing.

Because of this Union Station Homeless Services provided over 700,000 meals to our community last year - a nearly 150,000 meal increase from the year prior. Requests for food through the Emergency Food Program continue to increase with clients throughout all USHS programs accessing the resource. In the next year we are growing even more so we can:

  • Enhance access to nutrient dense foods

  • Expand partnerships with local grocery stores and restaurants to mitigate food waste

  • Increase volunteer opportunities for community members to be a part of the solution

  • Provide community classes that focus on minimizing food waste, smart grocery shopping, nutrition, budget recipe, basic cooking skills

  • Train community members for opportunities in commercial kitchens

Donate today to help strengthen services and fund new initiatives.
